About Our School

Newtown School is an infant school with early education facilities for children aged 2 to 7 years old.

The School currently has capacity for 120 children in Key Stage 1, 60 in Reception, 48 children in Pre-School (3 and 4 year olds) and 8 spaces for 2 year olds (pm only). The 3 and 4 year olds attend either 5 morning sessions from 8:30am to 11:30am or 5 afternoon sessions from 12:10pm to 3:10pm. We also have spaces for children to attend full days, either with 30 hours funding or paid for by parents. We take children in to the Pre-school in September, January or April depending on their age.

Reception class is when the children start school full time and will do 8:30am to 3:00pm every day, 32.5 hours a week. Many have attended our Pre-School but not all. There are two Reception classes at Newtown which can have up to 30 children in each and have a minimum of 4 members of staff, including two teachers.

We currently have four Key Stage 1 classes, 5 – 7 year olds, each class has up to 30 children, they also do 8:30am to 3:00pm every day, 32.5 hours a week. Teachers work in partnership across each year group and plan themes and activities for all the children. Work can be adapted across year groups to challenge more able pupils and nurture children who need it. This means that everyone works at the best pace and everyone strives to reach their potential and beyond.

We welcome visits to the school and have several open days in the Autumn Term but are happy to make personal appointments the rest of the year. Please contact the school office for further information.
