Newtown School

We care about our learning, each other and our world.

Welcome

Welcome from the Headteacher

Newtown is a vibrant, innovative school set in the heart of the community it serves. The ethos of this two form entry school is welcoming, nurturing and enthusiastic. Our children are confident in their ability to learn, resilient and considerate of others.

At Newtown we constantly strive to provide the best learning opportunities for all the children in our care. We set high expectations and encourage the children to set themselves challenging goals. As well as covering the  Early Years Foundation Stage and National Curriculum, we also make links with the International Primary Curriculum which offers a wider, global perspective and a range of exciting learning opportunities. We aim for children to become enthusiastic lifelong learners with a real thirst to acquire new skills.

Newtown is a forward thinking and constantly evolving school where the staff are also learners. As a staff we study and share the latest educational research and discuss what could improve learning for the children before looking at ways to implement it. For example over the last few years we have introduced our own bespoke phonics system, P4C a system of teaching philosophy for children and introduced the children to the importance and power of growth mindsets and employing a positive behaviour for learning approach which will support them in developing their learning skills in a positive working environment. Currently we are embedding work we have done on Zones of Regulation, supporting the children to recognise their own emotions and how they can help themselves to get in to the best zone for learning.

At Newtown we are proud of our holistic approach to learning and are keen for our pupils to reach their full potential academically and socially. We are proud of the wide range of support for children in our care. We run Nurture Groups every afternoon, supporting children with emotional or behavioural needs. We also run a wide variety of highly successful curriculum related interventions and recently trained a member of staff to deliver Lego therapy.

I have been a member of the teaching staff here at Newtown since September 2003 and the Headteacher here since April 2010. I not only work but also live in the school catchment area and both of my children attended Newtown. I am proud to be Headteacher and love showing the school off, we welcome all visitors and would be happy to show you around.
